Lexi mugshot

Winter at the Zoo

We decided to take a trip to the Zoo today. It was Super Bowl Sunday, and about 35 degrees, so it just seemed like the natural thing to do. Although many of the animals weren't out because of the cold, it was actually a pretty good day to go since there was almost nobody there. Lexi was able to run around all over the place without crashing in to too many strangers. Here are some pics of highlights.

Lexi, closer to a polar bear's butt than she ever thought she'd be.

Lexi, watching a sea lion swim past the window.

Lexi and Monica checking out critters in the desert habitat building.

Lexi, petting a shark. She LOVED the shark petting, and the splashing in the water, despite the signs clearly telling her NOT to splash.

Lexi and me checking out a fish tank in the Oceans building. I'm not real sure why I am quite so excited here.

Lexi and Monica spotting the red panda, which was hiding in a tree.

Lexi and Monica saying hello to a friendly meercat.

Lexi, checking out the meercats in their burrow.

Ice Fishing

I went ice fishing for basically the first time (I went once before in Wisconsin, but we were only out there for about 20 minutes that time) last weekend. I went with my co-worker Mike, and we had a good time. The ice was good and solid, but the fishing was not. We hiked about a mile across the ice, and fished for 5 hours, and didn't get a single bite. Oh well, maybe next time.

She's mobile!

Lexi is officially a walker now! She had taken a couple steps a long while back, but recently it has turned into full-on walking. She walks all over the place now.
She is also finally getting enough hair that it can be styled in various high-fashion ways. Here's a picture of her showing off one of those trendy styles while enjoying some see food. :-)

Christmas Fun

Hope everybody had a good Christmas. We had a good Christmas, it was great to see all the family, but the traveling all over the place did start to wear on us a little. Lexi had a great time opening her presents, and decorating her Daddy.
Daddy returned the favor.

All this gift opening and decorating got everybody pretty tired out.

Tree Time!

Well, we went on our annual search for a christmas tree last weekend. This was Lexi's first time tree hunting, so that made it pretty exciting. Unfortunately it was frigid cold and very windy, so we didn't want to spend too much time out there. We found a tree as quickly as we could, and got back inside the building.

The Sporting Life

There was a sports theme for the family this week. We pulled together Thursday night to support our home town (and world champion) Colts in the opening game of the NFL season. If you saw the game, you know that the Colts defense, which struggled last year, was outstanding. If you were wondering what has changed this year, here it is...

Lexi did her best to support the defense, including putting on her "game face" which is pretty intimidating right now due to her several sharp little chompers. She struck fear into the hearts of the Saints offense, and they never could recover.

Friday I took a half day off work and went golfing with some friends from work. This was notable because we played Brickyard Crossing GC which is the ritzy course which is located beside and partially inside the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The course is normally much to expensive for someone of my income level, but I managed to finagle a great deal for the group, so we were able to play the course without having to sell any organs.

I played very well overall. The conditions were tough due to very strong winds throughout, and some heavy rain halfway through the round. My putting was actually good for once. It was my first try at using the new hand-me-down putter I got from my Dad, and I have to say I was pleased. Here is an action shot of me hitting a shot inside the race track.

I won't go into too much boring detail about the round, but I will mention a couple highlights for me. I managed 3 birdies including one on the most difficult hole on the course, and only missed two fairways during the entire round. Unfortunately I also had several truely horrific holes, but we don't need to go into that.

Here's another shot showing us playing a hole inside the track, with the famous speedway Pagoda in the background.
